Golf course etiquette

Dear Neighbor of Lake Wilderness Golf Course,

As we enter Spring, play at Lake Wilderness Golf Course (LWGC) will increase as warmer weather brings the golf season into full bloom. We want to take this opportunity to share some information with you about access and proper use of the Course. Over the past few years we have seen a number of new neighbors move in and around the golf course. As this has happened, we are experiencing an increase in residents coming onto the course to do various activities. These activities, while seeming harmless, actually put individuals in harm’s way. It is important to remember that while you are homeowners of property that borders LWGC, it is a “daily fee” facility that requires a fee to be on the Course. This access is also limited to only golfers. We want to be good neighbors and keep your experience as home owners as it should be. We ask that you respect the Golf Course by limiting your access to the Course to playing golf. We will also be working to improve signage in and around the Course.

Below are some of the activities that are not allowed on LWGC property:

  • Walking, Jogging or Bicycling
  • Walking dogs (including playing catch, fetch, or other)
  • Any type of non-golf sports activity (baseball, football, soccer, frisbee, etc.)
  • Use of any motorized or electric vehicle (motorcycles, go karts, etc.)
  • Use of a drone or radio controlled vehicle (cars, planes, helicopters)
  • Playing or practicing golf without checking in at the Pro Shop to pay appropriate fee

Please note that non-golfers using the Course for any activity puts them at risk of bodily harm, creates a safety and liability issue as golfers may not be able to see the non-golfer while playing, and can damage the facility.

In closing we ask each of you to help us keep the golf course safe by reporting anything out of the ordinary immediately to the staff in the Pro Shop by calling 425-432-9405 x223. With over 100 acres of property to look out for it is a difficult task to see everything happening on the course at all times. Your help in reporting would be much appreciated.

  1. Lake Wilderness Speed Remedy Options: Yearly road striping and the addition of the 25 MPH painting to occur with the City’s annual striping project – Late Spring ETA
  2. Golf course fence paint/repair: Approval provided by Steve Englund at the Lake Wilderness Golf Course as well as an offer to provide the paint. Thank you Steve! Another opportunity that we will be pursuing is the Wal-Mart Community Grant Program, in the hopes that we may qualify for a grant that will cover fencing supplies. TBD – We will keep you updated
  3. Repaint yellow bumper of circle at entrance – June 2018

  1. Installation of golf crossing signs and golf cart signs as golfers enter the roadways to occur – Completed
  2. Weed removal and bark mulch added to the front entrance (right side as you leave the neighborhood) – Completed
  3. Weed removal and bark mulch added to the “calming circle” on SE 250 th Street – Completed (Note to residents, please do not plant items in the calming circles)
  4. Weed removal and plant added to the Crown Pointe Greens Sign on SE 255 th St – Completed

STREET PARKING:

Would you be surprised to learn that the more cars parked on your street lower the value of your house? It does according to Zillow! Cars parked on the street give the appearance of a cluttered and congested neighborhood. Remember, our CC&Rs specifically state (Article VI, Section 10) “No vehicle shall be parked or kept on the roadways other than temporary guests.” Please be considerate of your neighbors and utilize your garage and driveway.

MAILBOX ETIQUETTE:

Please do not post signs on the LWHOA owned mailboxes.

From The President’s Place:

Being on the LWHOA Board for over 4 years, I have been privy to witness the ups and downs the LWCC community has experienced. The growing pains of our Maple Valley
community and the positive and negative impacts on our HOA community.

What strikes me as out of time and proportion of the MV region is the lack of community involvement or growing apathy of the LWHOA residents. What I mean by apathy is other
than focusing on our individual properties and/or occasionally our neighbors within shouting distance, there is a general lack of community involvement with safety, adherence to the CC&R’s, maintaining our common areas, and support for the Board of volunteers who serve this community.

Let me ask three questions:
Do you know how to access the LWHOA website?
Have you ever accessed the LWHOA website?
When was the last time you attended a LWHOA monthly meeting?

Other than the annual LWHOA residents’ meeting in November, which we struggle yearly with to obtain a quorum from 174 residents, the average number of residents who attend
the monthly meetings is less than 3 residents. That’s a 1.76 participation rate!

With the lack of the LW residents’ involvement, the responsibility of managing the financial and logistical operations falls to the board. Six residents who volunteer their
time every month to attend the monthly meeting, review financial records, plan for the community, and then implement those plans.

Yearly events involve the annual garage sale with dumpsters, family night out with police and fire departments, and annual Christmas light celebration.

Successes are improvements to the traffic system within the LWHOA community, thereby increasing safety, replacing mailboxes, and refreshing the landscaping with color and ground cover.

We have also received the go ahead to paint the white fences along both sides of the road on the north hill, on the golf course. This will be done with supplies provided by the Muni and we provide the manpower.

So what is our goal as residents of a highly desired, essentially isolated community within the MV Municipality? Maybe keeping our LW community as a highly desired, essentially isolated community within the MV Municipality. But as in any organization, some will take the lead and others will enjoy the fruits of others’ labors.

As John Adams said, “There are only two people of value. Those that are motivated and those that require the motivation of others.”

Will these words anger you or motivate you? Time will tell. It almost always does.

LWHOA BOARD MEETING LOCATIONS:

Beginning with our January 2018 HOA Board Meeting, the time will change to 6:00 p.m. HOA Board Meetings occur the 3 rd Wednesday of each month except for June and December. The LWHOA meetings will now be held at the Lake Wilderness Lodge which is located at 22500 SE 248 th St, Maple Valley, WA 98038 – down at the Lake Wilderness Park – Cedar and Rainer Conference Rooms.
